Katerina Gregos about the 1st chapter of NEWTOPIA – THE STATE OF HUMAN RIGHT

Katerina Gregos, curator of the NEWTOPIA – THE STATE OF HUMAN RIGHTS exhibition is parting the exhibition in 4 chapters. In an interview, she explained us the NEWTOPIA locations in detail.

Here, she speaks about the first, the ´historical chapter` on display at Mechelen Culture Center:

The most historical chapter will examine the question of so called 1st generation human rights, which developed in the aftermath of WW II, conderning mostly political and civil rights, eg. the right to vote, to protest, to assemble in public, the right to a fair trial etc. This Chapter, which will exhibit at the Mechelen Culture Center, will reflect on certain historical reference points for postwar human rights, that is for example Apartheid in South Africa, military dictatorship in Latin America and Turkey ind the 70s and 80s, the civil rights movement and other key historical moments.
