Artist Talk 01.10.2012 - Ninar Esber & Thomas Kilpper
Within the framework of the international exhibition ‘Newtopia: The State of Human Rights’ (01/09/2012 – 10/12/2012), Newtopia and the Academy of Fine Arts Mechelen organize this autumn several artist talks. Every evening, two participating artists are invited to speak about their work in general and their contribution to Newtopia in particular. On Monday October 1, 2012 Ninar Esber (Lebanon, 1971) and Thomas Kilpper (Germany, 1956) will speak about their work. The talks will be held in English.
Based on personal experience, Ninar Esber’s work touches profoundly upon the notion of identity, whilst tracing a poetic vision of the world. In her photographs, videos and performances, the sensuality which runs through her work questions genres, morality and their authority.
Thomas Kilpper’s works often highlight contentious political or historical issues, such as state repression and immigration, often through large-scale, site- specific, labour-intensive artistic interventions, installations and floor carvings, which result in large woodcut prints.
