The History of Human Rights

This presentation overviews important marks of the situation and development of human rights. It shows the main topics of the NEWTOPIA exhibition concerning human rights in a chronological way. The „Declaration of Human Rights“ builds the groundwork, on which the other incidents are based upon. This presentation should provide an inside into the inspirations of the NEWTOPIA artists and their works.

The background of the artist Kandell Geers for example is the South African Apartheid regime, while Alfredo Jaar broaches the issue of the Rwandan Genocide in his work. Eduardo Gil „El Siluetazo“, who is a native of Argentina, witnessed the military junta in Argentina, which the regime called the „National Reorganisation Process“. Other artists like Ganzeer and Ali Ferzat coming from the Arab World and thereby they are influenced by the movements of the Arab Spring.
