“Three Gorges Dam” by Edward Burtynsky

It is his life’s work to document humanity’s impact on the planet.

Edward Burtynsky’s work examines the repercussions of man’s intervention in the landscape and natural environment.

“Three Gorges Dam” (from his China series) documents the construction of the world’s largest and most powerful hydroelectric dam (stretching two kilometres across and stand- ing 185 meters high on the Yangtze River), and what was left behind in the wake of this colossal project which displaced over 1.5 million people (the largest peacetime evacuation in history), with devastating consequences for local communities and the environment.
